THE BLUEPRINT OF PRE-HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAM : A PLATFORM TO UPLIFT THE B40 ECONOMIC POSITION THROUGH ISLAMIC SOCIAL FINANCE
Pre higher education program, UiTM is a special
program that provides opportunities for SPM graduates from the B40 and non-B40
groups to pursue their studies in the higher institution through its
pre-diploma programs. This unique program is self-funded through voluntary a
salary reduction for UiTM staff, as well as several corporate contributions
such as Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) and the Institute of Continuing Education and
Professional Studies (iCEPS) on a yearly basis. Previously, group B40 is
defined as the lowest income group where the family household income is below
RM4,000 per month. Currently, it has been increased to RM5,000 in October 2021.
Due to their economic standard, the B40 students typically have less access and
ability in meeting their family’s needs. This study provides an insights introduction
towards the UiTM’s continuous effort in B40 category and Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) program since 2010. In accommodating the needs of B40 by
providing chances to further their tertiary education. The provided blueprint
serves as a guide not only to those who were involved and contributed to the
process, but also to other organizations, researchers, and others interested in
understanding and replicate the implementation, especially in developing
countries. Components of zakat and sadaqah also constitute a part in the
institutional blueprint for long-term development.
