Abstract

Sustainable supply-chain management is gaining increasing interest among researchers and practitioners of operations and supply chain management. The growing importance of a sustainable supply chain towards Green Supply Chain Management is driven mainly by the escalating deterioration of the environment, such as diminishing raw material resources, overflowing waste sites, and increasing pollution levels. However, it is not just about being environmentally friendly; it is about good business sense and higher profits. In addition, it is a business value driver and not a cost centre. Therefore, this innovation, namely i-Recycler, aims to create an integrated platform for the society to hand over their unwanted or unnecessary household items or waste through the system for Reduce, Re-use, Rework, Refurbish, Reclaim, Recycle Remanufacture, Reverse logistics and so on.  In addition to that, one of the main objectives of Shari’ah is to preserve and protect the life and well-being of all mankind in this world. Hence, all acts of kindness towards the environment in terms of safeguarding and protecting the earth and all life within it is highly required in Islam to achieve the main goals of Shariah. Moreover, the new additional feature in this platform will offer unique services for the public to give unwanted or old Quran or Islamic books containing Quranic verses; that need special handling to dispose of. Thus, this innovation will enhance awareness of the people, mainly Muslims, to dispose of the items properly. This platform will also integrate and link with the recycle and garbage collectors, NGOs, second-hand furniture shops, furniture repairs service providers, and others to provide service and collect the items from the specific location of the housing area, such as a mosque. Thus, this enhances proper disposal through an appropriate system and reduces the waste or garbage generated by households that must not throw anywhere and everywhere. The development of mobile technology applications will further enhance this platform to make it more helpful to users, especially the domestic households and waste collectors and the authorities such as local councils and municipalities. This project supports three SDG goals; including SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 15: Life on Land.
